Welcome!

I am Christina and To Show Them Jesus is the space where I pour out in words the overflow of God’s grace in my life. This blog is a documentation of the journey of a broken daughter of the King. It’s a place where you can get a glimpse of who I am as I share with transparency all the messy, sinful and broken parts of me. In this place, I open a window in my heart, revealing all the ways God is stretching me, shaping me, and changing me to be more like Christ-from the inside out.

Trained and licensed as a psychotherapist, my posts here reflect my desire that we all see our brokenness and pain through the redemptive and healing power of Christ. I believe that the gospel of grace is powerful and effective to heal all the wounded parts of our soul. You’ll find here that my heart’s desire is to point myself and my readers to the gospel and how it covers every area of life.

More specifically:

  • There are a few ongoing themes that I write about: my search for joy and gratitude, the way God’s Word heals our brokenness, and the word I have chosen for the year (2013′s word is “seek”).
  • On Thursdays I share stories and practical ways I seek to ”teach Jesus” to my children. You’ll find book recommendations, crafts, conversations, parenting stories, and teaching moments in these posts.
  • I also write weekly posts reflecting the work God is doing in my heart as He sanctifies me. You’ll find posts on topics related to spiritual growth, spiritual disciplines, and other stories of God’s redemptive work in and through me. It’s here where I share my chronic struggle with depression that has followed me like a dark cloud since adolescence. I write about the ways this depression has affected me as a mom and wife. My heart’s desire is that despite my imperfections, God will use me to show Jesus to my children. It is my prayer that the deep valley’s I have traveled will only strengthen me and the lessons learned there will help me raise the two eternal souls that have been entrusted in my care. In addition to posts on depression, you’ll also find posts I’ve written on topics such as suffering, anxiety, worry, and fear.
  • As a homeschooling mom, you’ll periodically find me sharing ideas, activities, and reflections in our homeschool journey.

This journey in faith is not meant to be traveled in isolation. We need one another to encourage and spur us on in faith. It is my hope that this blog is a place where we can do just that. I pray that God uses my words and this space to draw you closer to Christ. If there is ever anything I can pray about for you, do not hesitate to ask.

More about me:

Raised in the Washington, D.C. area, I went to college at Covenant College atop Lookout Mountain in Georgia. It was there I met my husband and after we married, we settled in Florida. He’s a hard working firefighter who also has a second profession in the business world. I received my Master’s from Palm Beach Atlantic University in Counseling Psychology. I worked in the counseling field for about eight years before my oldest son was born.

No longer working in practice as a counselor, I spend my time writing for various websites and publications. I also have two active boys, ages 8 and 5 who keep me very busy! We are in our third year of homeschooling and love it. I am also a Bible study leader, Sunday school teacher, and facilitate a women’s discipleship group.

In my free time I love to read and am always in the middle of at least three books. I also love antique shopping and am a collector of all things old. I like my coffee black, preferably from a French press. It is my belief that chocolate is best dark and in good supply. I also love to travel with my husband of 16 years.

  1. I’m very grateful to have found your site. I minister to children and families who desire practical Christ-centered advise and appreciate begin able to point them in this direction. Thank you for being authentic (most people would assume psychotherapists have it all together) and real to people who need the equipping and encouraging God provides.

  2. Christina,
My friend, Kara, is leading a class called “Christ-Centered Families” for our church right now. It is based off of her blog where she wrote a multiple-part Family Discipleship series. I think you would enjoy looking at it if you have time. Here’s the link: https://homewithpurpose.blogspot.com/p/family.html
    Take care!

  7. Dear Christina,
I found your blog a few weeks back and have been reading nearly every post since. It continues to take my breath away that you and the life you are living is so very similar to my own. From the home school curriculum you are using to your fight with depression, to your intense desire to show your kids Jesus in their lives. I have never found another blog that I had any interest in following, but yours speaks to me daily. Thank you so much, if for nothing else than to let me know there ARE still other moms out there that understand the importance of raising their kids to know that Jesus is #1. God bless you and thank you again!

    • It is humbling to know that other people are reading and getting something out of what God is doing in my life. It is so nice to find other people going through the same thing as you are. It makes us feel not so alone. Thanks so much for your kind words:)

  8. Christina, may I ask what church you are associated with? I love that you use a lot of Paul’s writings in your blogs and to be honest I don’t see a lot of that in Christian writings…so good to find your site!

  9. Thanks for visiting my site, Odd Mommy Out. I enjoyed reading your posts. I have my Masters in Child and adolescent Development so it would be lovely to learn from another person how to balance what we studied and practiced with what we actually do and see in our own children! I grew up in Fairfax, by the way. How funny!

  10. Hi Christina~ Thank you for stopping by Leaving A Legacy today. I am looking forward to getting to know you better! I am glad we are in the SDG small group together!
    Many Blessings~
    Shari

  14. What a blessing to have found you on the blog hop! As I read, I discovered more and more we have in common. 1. I live in the Washington D.C. area in Poolesville 2. A close youth girl from our church currently attends Covenant College 3. I have a son with autism, and another son who is not diagnosed, but they are both EXTREMELY bright and intelligent (My 3rd son is only 4… we’ll see how things go; so far he can color incredibly and stay inside the lines perfectly!) 4. I have struggled with depression the last few years, and coupled with parenting a special needs child, as well as being a pastor’s wife (my husband is the associate pastor of worship and family ministries), it has been crippling 5. My greatest desire is to show my kids Jesus and to teach them to love Him more than anything else.

I hope you’ll stop by my blog and visit! I’m also on Facebook - Hope in Autism is my FB page. My website is https://hopeinautism.blogspot.com. I can’t wait to delve into more of your posts!!

  19. Hi there :)

How are you? I hope you are doing great.

I saw some guest writers on your site and it made me think to contribute my own article at toshowthemjesus.com . I am a volunteer at thefamilycompass.com. They help troubled teens and families find ways to help themselves. I was one of the parents that they helped in the past. As a form of support to their advocacies, I am giving the favor back to them. I wanted to share an article about “Discipline is Discipleship”.

This will surely help parents like me who are having problems with their kids because of addiction and rebellion. It’s hard being a single mom and I am thankful that there are useful sites like yours that are giving helpful articles for moms like me.
I hope to hear from you again.

    Kind Regards,
