Ethan frequently does not chew his food and just swallows it, making him choke. It doesn’t matter what kind of food it is, hard or soft. He’ll take a bite and then try to swallow. He also stuffs his face full and then tries to swallow. So when he chokes he ends up throwing up. Well today he did this while I was having a meeting with our pastor. Twice. The pastor just put his hand out and caught it as it was coming out of Ethan’s mouth. I was so embarrassed.
Well our whirlwind tour of Maryland (and a bit of West Virginia) has ended. We learned that Ethan does not enjoy traveling us much as we do. I had forgotten the Benadryl for the flight up and Ethan fussed the entire way. We visited family and friends and kept Ethan busy throughout our trip. He missed naps and did not sleep well at night. In fact each night he woke up at least twice and cried for half hour periods. He was definitely over stimulated and by the end of the trip was crying quite frequently. We had tried to go to the Baltimore Aquarium but he cried during most of the walk through. Whenever we were in the car driving somewhere he would say, “All done, car.” Whenever we were in a building he would go to the door and say, “Bye, Bye.” And by the last day he was saying, “Home, House.” I enjoyed seeing family and friends I hadn’t seen for a while and many of them had never met Ethan. Ethan enjoyed meeting his second cousin Ben for the first time and they played very well together. After landing back in Florida, we got into the car and the whole car ride home Ethan kept clapping his hands saying “Yay!” Needless to say we are recovering and probably won’t travel for a while.
We are leaving tomorrow to fly to Baltimore. Ethan hasn’t flown since he was about nine months old. We got him his own seat, knowing he would not sit on our laps for the flight. We also broke all our rules and bought a DVD player for him to watch during the flight. I also borrowed a new toy for him which should distract him for about 10minutes. We are driving all over Maryland to visit family and friends and I am sure he will miss most of his naps. Should be an interesting trip. Something new he is doing-in music class the teacher pats her legs and says “beat, beat” to help them learn musical concepts and as we were heading to class the other day I told him we were going to music class and he starting patting his legs saying “beat, beat.” He is catching on quickly to words and tries repeating many of them.
Ethan cut his finger while playing with the dishwasher-I guess it was on the metal part of the top section. It was bleeding and he wouldn’t let me put pressure on it. He didn’t seem bothered by the fact that it was bleeding. We spent the next hour and a half on learning about bandaids and why we need to wear them. I don’t think he ever caught on. He kept taking his bandaid off and I would have to put on another because his finger kept bleeding. So for an hour he got to play in one minute increments because that’s how long he would wear his bandaid for. Eventually it stopped bleeding and the war ended.
