We’ve been looking for a new bed the past few weeks. We finally decided we needed a king (after all George’s feet hang off the end of our queen). Our bed is so firm that with my back problems I feel like I am sleeping on a rock. Ethan has enjoyed bed shopping. He tried out a few, laying on each one. He got into his sleeping position to try it out (face down but in the air-like the child’s pose in yoga). He seemed to like the tempuerpedics the most (of course the most expensive one). So we finally bought one last night and can’t wait til it arrives.

Guess who ate salad for dinner? Well it certainly wasn’t George who probably won’t eat salad this side of heaven where he will resolve his psychological issues with vegetables. Ethan asked to eat some of my salad and I gave him his own bowl which he thoroughly enjoyed. I guess the ranch dressing helped. His faced was smeared white from it. Well I guess the persistance with veggies is paying off. What shall we try next asparagus or okra?

I went on a little retreat this weekend with the ladies from the bible study I was in this spring. George’s mom lives near where we were staying so she took Ethan to stay with her. It was so weird waking up in the morning and having no responsibility. We were quite lazy-laying out in the sun, swimming in the lake, boating, seadooing, eating, etc. Ethan had a great time with his mamoo and didn’t cause too much trouble.

For Christmas we gave my mother-in-law a gift certificate to see a show at the Kravis Center. Last night she and I went to see Mama Mia. It was a great show, lighthearted and funny. It was nice to get dressed up and go out. This weekend I am going on a little retreat with my bible study group and my mother-in-law is watching Ethan at her house. Should be fun and relaxing and a nice time for Ethan to spend with grandma (who he currently alternates between calling “mamoo” or “papa.”) He’s slightly confused.

When I post in my blog it has a place for a title and I always think that I need to come up with something interesting and I usually never do. In fact today I don’t have a title. I actually have time to write more than I usually do because George hired me a mother’s helper (just every other Monday). I have been hesitant to hire someone because I am afraid I will become addicted like I did to having someone clean. I’m not complaining though. We went to the inlaws for mother’s day. George made us spaghetti and meatballs. Yummo as Racheal Ray would say. My mother’s day present was a new crock pot. A very cool one I have to say that turns itself to warm when it is done cooking. Mine was almost ten years old so it was time. I got to read an entire book over the weekend, that hasn’t happened in a while. I used to read a book a day when I was in high school and I was able to do more reading when Ethan was napping more frequently. I read “Blue like jazz” which was really quite good. I had read a review of it in our demoninations magazine and thought it sounded interesting. The author reminds me of my friends in college-pipe smoking, philosophers, living communally and always at a coffee house. Boy I miss those days. Anyway the book reads almost like a blog-though much better than mine. I could relate to his issues with Christianity and appreciated his frankness and honesty. You may be wondering why I haven’t mentioned Ellen in a long time. Well since Ethan switched to one nap, we are always gone in the mornings. I DVR’d it for a while but found that this season really wasn’t as funny as the last and so I stopped. It was actually good because if I do have time to watch tv I read instead (okay I actually read and watch tv at the same time). But I’ve been able to keep up with my goal to read all of CS Lewis’s writings. I don’t know if I will finish this year or not but most resolutions carry on from year to year don’t they? So enough about me. Ethan is trying to learn his numbers, colors and alphabet. Unfortunately he thinks all letters are B,D, and P and all numbers are 2, and all colors are blue. He’ll even count the fingers on his hand “2,2,2,2,2.” My sister in law the teacher thinks it’s funny and encouraged it over the weekend by telling him all the crayons in the crayon box were blue. He is improving in gymnastics and actually sat still for five minutes, sitting in a row with his classmates, watching his teacher demonstrate the routine for them. I was amazed.

PT

Well I’ve been in physical therapy the last few weeks now for my back. The PT has determined my problems are from lifting Ethan in and out of the car, in and out of the crib, etc. Since our crib is used, the front part that drops down is broken so I have to lift him straight out of the crib. Anyway, the work she’s been doing on my back is painful but I think it is improving. I am the youngest person to go in to the rehab. place by at least 30 yrs.

I’ve been watching a friend’s child when needed because the mother is in the hospital and will be for a while. He is about ten months older than Ethan. Ethan is so excited when he is over. We’ve had lessons on sharing and taking turns. The same lessons over and over in fact. Thankfully I have two of most of Ethan’s toys. They each had a cell phone they carried around the house and babbled on. They both had their own ball as well. We’ve had fun and Ethan talks about his friend after he leaves. (his name is Jackson but Ethan calls him “Ax”).

I took Ethan to the doctor today and she decided it could have been a cold but most likely it was his teeth causing his runny nose. He has just cut all four of his eye teeth (sp?). So at least it’s not an ear infection. Hopefully it will end one day soon.
