Keri came to town late Monday night and we had a nice visit. We went to the beach on Tuesday and hung out by the pool. Wednesday I started to not feel well and she was so great to hang out with Ethan while I napped. I feel badly that she was here for such a short period of time and I was sick and exposed her to germs she doesn’t need. She and I then went down to City Place and hung out. We saw Evan Almighty and I thought I was going to deliver a baby I laughed so hard. Unfortunately, that evening I came down with the eye infection Ethan had. My eyes were tearing so much I could hardly see. At the same time I realized I had caught his cold as well which immediately became a sinus infection. Since we were flying out the next morning, I had to stop at a walk in clinic on my way out of town. It turns out that there are no eye drops that are approved for pregnancy. (Thankfully I had stolen a couple of drops of Ethan’s Vigamox the night before to get some relief and just that little bit actually helped a lot). I also got a script. for my sinus infection and away we went to the airport. Ethan was very excited to have his Aunt Shanna there to play with him so he hardly took the time to say gooodbye to us. Keri flew back to Baltimore about an hour before us so we hung out at the airport. Of course our flight to ATL was delayed an hour. I slept the whole way. Then we were stuck in ATL traffic for quite a while on the way to Chatt. At about 5:30pm we stopped for dinner in Dalton, GA and I finally got my script. filled so I could start my meds. I was pretty miserable by then. This sinus infection is much worse than the one I had two months ago. We got to Chatt. about 7:30 or so and realized it took us the same amount of time to get to Chatt. as it would have taken had we driven instead of flown.
Well I guess we are experiencing the drawback to having Ethan in school. He has a cold and an eye infection. When I picked him up from school on Friday, I saw a little boy in his class who had quite the runny nose and I thought, “He really should be at home.” Oh well. Of course all of this happens when we are getting ready to go out of town this week, just George and I. We have three sitters lined up to watch Ethan while we are gone. Hopefully he will get better quickly and won’t be too cranky while we are out of town.
I’ve been able to go out two nights this week. What a treat! One night I went with a friend to see Nancy Drew. A cute movie. I’m a huge Nancy Drew fan and used to imagine myself as a sleuth one day. Does investigating the mysteries of the mind count? Last night the girls from my accountability group and I went to a spa that’s on the water here in Stuart. It’s in a 100yr. old building and was quite a nice treat. I got a facial and a pedicure. We then went out to dinner and walked along the river with our ice cream from Kilwin’s. I used to take outings like that for granted but I certainly don’t anymore. Thanks for hanging out ladies!
Well we are making some progress on getting ready for baby J.D. The armoire I bought for the great room arrived and we’ve set up all our computer equipement in it. In fact I am using it right now. It’s worked out pretty well so far. The rocker I bought off of ebay arrived and we need to put it together. The office is a wreck, mostly with books and files we need to go through. We need to get it done on the weekend because my best friend from college is coming Monday night to visit for a few days and will stay in that room. She has a brief break from med. school. She flies out Thursday as do George and I. We are going to Chattanooga for a wedding and Ethan will be at home with family. Update on name: we’ve narrowed it down to two names. Actually I think it’s been narrowed down more because George keeps referring to the baby by one of the names when he is talking to Ethan about the baby. I told him he better be sure that’s the name we’re going to use because Ethan will be very confused if we switch it. Ethan already calls the baby “Tanner” because of one my friends has a baby boy named Tanner and I guess that’s what Ethan thinks of when he envisions having a baby brother.
George took the morning off so we could go boating together. It has been a long time since we had done that and we had a nice time. I even caught a glimpse of a manatee. I guess being out in the sun is tiring because Ethan and I both fell asleep when we came home.
Ethan finished his swimming lessons yesterday. He had a great week and looked forward to Mr. Pat’s arrival everyday. It’s amazing how much a child can learn in just a week. He had no tantrums as he had last year and has made a lot of progress in what he learned from last year. Mr. Pat said he was willing to try anything he threw at him so swimming may be a sport we’ll continue to pursue with him. Now we just have to keep up with everything he learned.
Mr. Pat came today to teach Ethan how to swim. He has taught most of the kids in Martin County. He has a strong teaching style and usually the kids don’t like him but they do learn how to swim. Ethan of course has forgotten everything he learned last summer and because we now have a pool we are anxious for him to learn how to swim. The parents aren’t supposed to watch or be nearby. I didn’t hear any screaming. Mr. Pat said he did well and quickly made progress. He said he didn’t get any resistance which I was glad to hear. Last year on the second day of lessons, Ethan threw himself down on the ground screaming when the teacher arrived. Hopefully that won’t happen tomorrow.
We finally started working on clearing out the office this weekend. There is so much stuff to pack up and get rid of. We ordered a computer armoire for the great room since we won’t have an office anymore. I had gone back and forth on which room to put the baby in but we finally decided to give Ethan the bigger room and put the baby in Ethan’s room. I just hope Ethan adjusts okay to that change. We won’t even have to do much painting, just touching up because the colors work for both kids. George is happy that he gets to leave his red shelf up with all his fire collectibles in the room Ethan will get. George finally looked at a baby name book last night but nothing came out of it so John Doe he remains.
I had an OB appt. while Ethan was in school today. She didn’t change my due date. It looks like she’ll leave the date as is and just monitor how big John Doe gets and induce me before he gets too big. I’ve only gained about 8pds and I’m halfway through my pregnancy so his largeness is George’s fault for being so tall:) A few of my friends are planning a shower for me for later this summer (thanks Kristine and everyone else!) and I hope we have a name by then because some of the things I registered for can be monogrammed. I suppose we could always go with JFD:) Having Ethan in school is so awesome for both of us. It’s amazing what a year can do. A year ago I was considering working part time but the thought of sending him to a preschool or daycare made me cry. But both of us are enjoying it now. I think we’re getting along better by having a bit of a break. When I went to pick him up today, he cried and tried to hide under the slide. As soon as we got into the car he said “I miss my friends.”
