I had an OB appt. yesterday morning. I was sure I had gained a lot of weight because my clothes are tight and my shirts seem to be getting shorter but I had only gained a pound. I’ve been out of breath a lot lately, I guess from carrying around such a big belly. My ultrasound is scheduled for next Monday, followed by an internal exam so I should know next week whether I should expect to be induced. I took Ethan to an ENT in the afternoon. It was the only local doctor on my insurance. We waited an hour for the doctor, you can imagine how much fun that was. Ethan was trying to socialize with all the old people who weren’t interested. Then he wanted to play with all the equipment once we finally got into a room. It was an ugly office, they must have moved in sometime in the 70′s and not changed a thing since then. After all that, the doctor didn’t do anything different than the allergist does and said, “I don’t see anything.” He wanted me to bring him in the next time he has an active sinus infection and gave him a prescription for Zyrtec. Big waste of time and I have no intention of returning. I then called a friend who had mentioned going to an ENT, having to wait a long time and then the doctor had nothing new to tell her. Turns out it was the same doctor.
We took Ethan to his first show this weekend. He saw Sesame Street Live with a bunch of his friends. I had great plans to do a scrapbook page of the event but couldn’t get any decent pictures. Ethan was very upset that one of his friends had binoculars but he didn’t. He wouldn’t let it go and talked about it constantly. Thankfully, his friend was kind and shared hers with him. I didn’t think to bring ours from home…next time. The show was cute but kind of long. By the end, I could hear kids throughout the audience crying. We then enjoyed lunch at Cheesecake Factory.
Ethan had his 3yr dentist appt. and follow up for losing his tooth today. The other times he has been there they had only looked at his teeth so today he had his first official cleaning. He actually did pretty well. I think the suction thing was a little freaky to him. I mentioned to the dentist his bad breath but talked about how he also has chronic sinusitus which causes bad breath. He said Ethan’s tonsils were kind of big and said we should take him to an ENT and have them look at his adnoids. The allergist had mentioned an ENT once but hadn’t officially recommended it yet. I wonder if we should go ahead and do that even without her recommending it. He’s had four sinus infections in the past year and I’d hate to just wait and see if he has another. I really like this dentist, not so much the hygenist because she doesn’t speak English fluently. (How can she expect Ethan to open his mouth when she isn’t even using the English word for mouth when she is giving him instructions?). He always gets lots of stickers and gets to pick out a toy to take home.
We’ve been busy with doctor’s appts. the past week. Ethan had his 3yr. appt. last Thursday. He continues to be at 90% for height. He did really well with have his blood pressure checked which he had never had done before and peeing in a cup. The doctor pointed out that he had post nasal drip. I talked to her about his behavior at school and since her son goes to the same school she had some helpful suggestions. I did end up talking to the director about him and she didn’t seem too worried. She felt that the kids were testing the teacher because she is new. The past two school days Ethan has done well there, by the way. I had my every two week visit with the OB on Monday. I continue to have contractions but they haven’t gotten worse so I’m still supposed to rest. I think she’s going to schedule me an ultrasound at 36 weeks to see how big he is. I’m at about 33 weeks now. Ethan’s post nasal drip developed into a cough the other day so I took him to see the allergist this morning and he has another sinus infection. She said that if he did not recover from this one or got another one this year, she would have to order blood work to see what is wrong. George will have to handle that one.
Ethan had started out the school year well at school but on Friday the teacher informed me that she was having trouble with him and then today he apparently was sent to the director’s office. He has taken to throwing toys when he is upset about something and it nearly hit another child. The teacher then told me that I should expect for Ethan’s behavior to get worse after the baby is born and that I should keep a close eye on the baby. I cried all the way home and didn’t really stop until George came home from work for a little while to talk to Ethan and reassure me. We had had some difficulties with Ethan for about a week recently with anger outbursts and throwing toys at home but after working with him on it, he’s been doing better at home and has been overall cooperative. We’re not really sure what think of his behavior at school especially because he did so well there over the summer. George may go in and talk to the director, I told him I couldn’t because I would probably cry. He said it was unprofessional for the teacher to tell me what she did.
I wasn’t going to post this because I was kind of embarrassed but then I had another funny moment so I decided to go ahead. Last weekend we went shopping for a crib. Babies R Us was having a grand opening celebration and they had a few characters there for the kids to meet. We waited in line so Ethan could see Pooh, Arthur and Jeffrey and have his picture taken. I kneeled down in front of Arthur and Ethan stood in front of me for the picture. Ethan then sat back on my knee. This disrupted my balance and I fell back onto Arthur in front of the whole line of people. I was quite embarassed. Meanwhile, we realised Ethan had lost one of his most treasured toys and we had to look all over the store for it. We ended up buying him a similar toy to hold him over until we could find something else. So the other day we went to Toys R Us and I got him Harold the helicopter to replace the wooden plane he had lost. The very next day, Ethan and I went to the Gardens Mall. He had a big meltdown while I was trying to talk to the salesperson at PBK. So we left, stopped at another store, and then went to the food court. I realised after we finished eating that he didn’t have Harold with him anymore. So we retraced our steps and none of the stores had it. I was so ready to leave the mall and not feeling so well so I decided to take the easy way and go up the escalator rather than hunt down the nearest elevator (you’re not supposed to take strollers on the escalator but I had done it before with no problem). So we get on the escalator, Ethan is standing next to me and I am holding my coffee and the stroller. Somehow the stroller gets stuck as we are almost to the top and it makes me lose my balance and I very nearly fall backwards down the escalator. The angels that God assigns to look after us were at work yesterday because I was able to right myself again just as we got off the escalator and the stroller became unstuck. I did get coffee all over me but was thankful to have survived. I left the mall as fast as I could waddle and Ethan’s little legs could carry him, sans poor Harold.
