Ian turned one month a few days ago. My parents have been in town and Ethan has loved having playmates even though he has been sick. The croup has passed, now it’s more of an asthma thing-none stop coughing. Ian seemed to have improved his original cold but then seemed to get sick again so I guess he caught what Ethan had. The cold has lessened Ian’s appetite, we figured that out after several projectile vomiting episodes. Good news-he went 8 hours between feedings last night. Don’t know if he was just tired because of his cold or if it will become a trend. Hope so. This week starts my third week of Ethan being home because of illness or holiday. What do you do with a child when you can’t take them around other kids and you are dying to get out of the house?

We had a pretty quiet Thanksgiving. George’s sister and brother-in-law ended up not coming because she was really sick. George’s mom and step-dad came and brought food from a restaurant so we didn’t have to cook anything. We heated up the pool so Ethan could swim. George brought the Wii game system home from work and everyone enjoyed the bowling game (Ethan instructed everyone in how to play). Ian continues to have a cold and Ethan came down with croup. Fun Fun.

It seems like a while since I last posted. Ethan is watching tv and Ian is in his bouncy seat so I thought I’d steal a minute and post something. Frankly I am tired. Ian had begun to sleep longer at night but then he started having gas pain and would wake up screaming at night. We decided to try a different bottle and a different formula. So far it seems to be helping. Now he has his first cold so he’s not sleeping at night because he has trouble breathing and he gets upset about it and cries, which doesn’t help. His coughing and fussing keep us awake all night. Ethan seems to be doing well. I continue to juggle meeting both their needs. It is especially difficult to wipe Ethan’s rear while I am feeding Ian. Or I am trying to put Ethan to bed at night and while I am reading him his story I hear Ian screaming in the other room. I had my longest day with them the other day while George went to do half a shift in Boca. He got home at 9pm. I was happy to report having survived the day. I was high on caffeine though. I’m on this vicious cycle where I have so much caffeine to stay awake during the day that I’m too jittery to fall asleep at night so I have to take Benadryl to fall asleep. I’m hoping soon the sleepless nights will lessen somewhat.

George and Ethan went with friends Josh and Jackson to the Stuart Air Show. I went with Ian to the mall with a friend. Ethan had an awesome time.

Ian is 3 weeks old today. Time has passed by quickly for the most part. We’ve been working on learning how much formula he needs and how often to give it to him. George has been feeding him in the middle of the night for me because he is so awesome. I require so much more sleep than he does so he says he doesn’t mind. It’s been a challenge to meet everyone’s needs that before I realize it, I’ve forgotten to meet my own needs. I guess that’s normal for moms. Ethan enjoys being a big brother and talks about all the things Ian will get to do when he “gets big like me.” Ethan also enjoys showing Ian all his toys. This is our last week receiving meals from friends. So sad but real life has to start sometime right? Here’s some really good news: Ethan’s teacher at school was fired. Yay! We weren’t crazy about her and I was going to ask that he be switched to another class. She said some pretty inappropriate things to a friend of mine about her son and my friend spoke to the director about it. That began a chain of events where the director began asking other parents and the assistant about the teacher. Anyway, we are happy and the new teacher is great so far. She is organized and is getting the class back on track.

Ian is two weeks old now. Yesterday we had a doctor’s appt for him. Ethan was home from school because he had a cough, just a cold I think. George had a dentist appt. in the morning so I had to bring them both to the doctor’s. The last time George was there he had a long wait so I was dreading taking them both by myself but we were only there for a half hour! Ian is 9.5lbs now. The doctor said he was looking great. Then I took them to Toys R Us because yesterday the garbage men accidentally took Ethan’s dump truck away that he had left by the mailbox (even though our trash cans were in a completely different place). Ethan was very distraught about it and kept perseverating over it. He loves to push it around the neighborhood and bring it to the park. So we went to the toy store to find another one. Amazingly, it went well.
