This is my second book review on a children’s book written by R.C. Sproul. As with the last one I did, “The Lightlings”, I was very impressed. “The Prince’s Poison Cup,” due to be released in mid October, is a creatively written story that explains the Fall and Christ’s work of redemption in a way that a child can relate to and understand. Ethan and I talk every day about creation, fall and redemption and I frequently have trouble explaining some of the theological concepts to him. In this book, a little girl is sick and has to take some medicine that doesn’t taste good. She wants to know why something that tastes so bad will make her feel better. Her grandfather then tells her a story to help her understand. He tells the story of a King who had created his people and instructed them not to drink from a fountain in the park, they did and by drinking it, their hearts turned to stone and they no longer loved their king. They moved away and their lives were miserable, dark and lonely. The King told his son, the prince that he would need to go to the town of his people and drink from the fountain there which was full of a poisonous drink. The story continues with the prince dying for his people and then the King bringing him back to life. The illustrations are very well done; it’s a perfect picture book for late preschool into elementary age children. At the end of the story there is a list of questions and verses that parents can use to relate the story back to the Fall of Adam and Christ’s loving sacrifice for us on the cross. I’m looking forward to reading it to Ethan as we continue to talk more about concepts of sin, death, and our need for a Savior.
In an effort to save money, I joined on of those online grocery store savings sites. You pay a monthly fee and they tell you what’s on sale, what’s the cheapest deal, and where to get coupons. The first week I saved $53 at my local grocery store and this week I saved almost $60. It takes more planning and more time to get the coupons together but so far it’s been worth it. Now, if I can only figure out how to contact them, maybe I can advertise for them…:)
Since Ethan just turned four and Ian’s almost one I decided to get their pictures taken. I had scheduled the appt. for 11am to work around Ian’s morning nap. Well of course, he decided not to take a nap yesterday morning. He fell asleep on the way there, naturally. I had hoped George would have been able to come with us, but duty calls so I was on my own. I brought George’s fire gear with me because I wanted pictures of the boys with it. The bag it is in is bigger than Ian’s stroller. I had to use the stroller as a cart to carry the gear and I carried Ian into Sears. The pictures weren’t quite what I was hoping for. Ian wouldn’t stay still and was cranky and Ethan kept looking away at the tv that shows the pictures rather than at the camera. I was sweating profusely by the end from being under all the lights and trying to get both boys to cooperate. Needless to say, it was a great idea in theory:(
Ethan turned 4 yesterday. It was a low key day since we’re having a big party for him next month. He got to pick what he wanted to eat (chicken nuggets) and he also asked to go to Kilwin’s for ice cream. We asked a couple of his friends to meet up with us, thanks for coming Maddie, Tanner, and Braden!
Ethan had his four year old appt. this week. He has gained 5 pounds and grew 3 inches since last year. He is completely recovered from his surgery. Not all of the blood work is back from Ian’s testing we had done in August but his immune system is fine. He has mild allergies to dairy, peanuts, and dust. I’ve also determined that he is allergic to strawberries based on the huge eczema outbreak he had after I gave him strawberries. He’s not had any for a couple of months now and no eczema. We are waiting on results from the outdoor allergens. Poor thing, can’t imagine childhood without PB&J:( I had a podiatrist appt. today and it looks like I may have to have surgery. I saw a podiatrist a couple of years ago and he said I had a bunion. I changed all of my shoes and it helped until recently. Everytime I walk on the treadmill it is painful, like I imagine it would feel to have a match lit next to your foot. So they have to remove part of the bone in my foot and there is no guarantee that it will not happen again. Yay. George wants me to do it before the end of the year since we’ve met our insurance deductable. I’m not sure how our family will function with me not being able to walk around??
We’re on the home stretch to one year. Ian is 11months today. He now signs “eat” “milk” “all done” and “more.” He loves climbing and will try to climb on anything. He loves riding cars on the back porch with his brother. While he will take a couple of steps, he wants to crawl instead and boy is he fast! He no longer wants any babyfood and is completely on sippy cups now. (Yay, no more washing Dr. Brown’s). We are planning is joint party with Ethan and friend Maddie next month. It will be lots of fun, can’t wait to watch Ian try cake:)
Last night’s date night was great, especially compared to our last one (remember the Batman post?). We went to a new restaurant we’ve been wanting to try in Palm Beach Gardens. My favorite seafood place, Jetty’s, opened a restaurant in PBG that is more casual but still the same great food. Yummo! We then hung out at BN having cheesecake, coffee and reading. What could be better!
Funny title but not really. I used to wash George’s uniform by itself but once Ian was born the laundrey was too overwhelming so I started washing his uniform with the rest of our clothes. He tells me today that aparently the fire retardent on the pants may be causing health problems among employees at work. He said that it was shown to be carcinogentic in infants. There are guys at his work that have been having mysterious health problems, some fertility issues, some have extremely low testosterone levels and other bizarre symptoms. Some of the guys had been out of work for several months because they couldn’t function. They are being tested for heavy metals and I guess at some point the dept. may have to send everyone for the testing. I was very disturbed because I know that occassionally the boys clothes get mixed in with our clothes when I wash his uniform:( My first question was, when are they giving you new pants?
