I received this book directly from the author in exchange for this review. The thoughts and opinions are my own.

Do you remember as a child dropping a penny in a fountain, making a wish and really hoping it came true? How about blowing out the candles on your birthday cake and hoping that wish came true?

A Wish and a Prayer is the story of a young boy named Jason who loses his pet parakeet. Taking the advice of friends, he wishes on various things, including a birthday cake in the hopes of his parakeet returning. It’s only after a discussion with his mom who points out to him that objects don’t have the power to make things happen, only God does, that Jason prays for his parakeets return. And the next day, he does!

This book was a cute, well illustrated story that both my kids enjoyed listening to me read. In a culture like ours, where superstition abounds and there is strong belief in our own power to make things happen, the importance of and power of prayer is an important topic to teach our children.

  1. Looks like a neat book. :)

  2. Thank you so much for sharing my book with your readers, Christina. Kids can get confused with all the wishing we do in our culture, so I hope the story helps clear up misconceptions little ones might have. Like Jason’s mom, we can ask our kids questions that lead them to the truth.

    Blessings to you!

  3. This looks like the perfect book for my nephews! And, to have my my shelf for future grandbabies.

  4. Thanks for this excellent review. Learning to pray very early is so important for our children and grandchildren. With so many choices of books for children, it is good to have honest, clear opinions, and this looks as if it will be a wonderful addition to any little one’s growing library.
I also enjoyed visiting your site, Christina.

  5. Though I no longer have youngsters in my family or even my neighborhood. I love the idea of this book. Thanks for this review, and thanks, Beth, for your heart in writing the book.

  6. I loved “A Wish and A Prayer” and so did my neighbor’s two kids. It’s a book worth having for our children to read to one another or to read to them. Fun read.

  7. I love this book. I followed a link to listen to this book being read a while back and began thinking who I could buy it for. It makes the message so clear to learn to pray and expect from God at a very early age. We need our little ones to have this kind of book in their hands.
