”I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the Lord. They will be my people, and I will be their God, for they will return to me with all their heart.” Jeremiah 24:7

Father in Heaven,

I come before you frustrated and irritated. The kids are always so distracted! I send them to put on their shoes and I come in and find them doing something else. We ended up being late to our appointment today. The other day, it was all I could do to get them focused on school work. Will they ever be able to do what they are told without frequent reminders?

  1. Christina,

I love your prayer. Yes, distracted kids- I have a handful of them and I think they have learned it from a distracted mama. Seems I’m always trying to do TOO MUCH, so I forget the thing I really need to do RIGHT NOW. Hmm… I’m printing off your prayer and sticking it in my Bible this week. Love your heart! (And thanks for the idea at the Overflow for super hero pillow case capes. My little man will LOVE those!)

  2. This was beautiful Christina. This line was my favorite, “Help me to see my chidlren through the lens of the gospel of grace.” I want to make sure I do this with my children and everyone. Thank you for linking up!

  3. Thank you so much for coming by to the first Faithfully Parenting Fridays linky party!!! Your piece here is making me think more about writing out my prayers to God…as it just helps me focus on what I really want to say and not be distracted. Blessings!! :) Michy
(PS-there is a button for FPF on my site now…struggling to get it on sidebar though! I’m very excited you were my first linky today!!!!!!)

  4. Hi! I’m also linking up with Michy today. Loved this post. Oh, Father, that you will bind my wandering heart to thee! Amen!!!

  5. This is a sidetracked note (a little ironic considering your kids’ distractions ;) but one of my goals is to display God’s Word throughout our house. Is the wooden plague hanging in your house? I love it!

  6. What a lovely prayer - and it’s one that I seem to utter daily! Oh, the distractions and things that seem to take my attention from Him - and He gently leads me back each time. Such grace!!

  7. Oh, how true - and that picture contains one of my favorite lines: “bind my wandering heart to Thee”. How I need that! So many distractions, so easy to focus on everything unimportant. Thank you for your honesty and transparency. Beautiful prayer.
